Default Truss 'frame' with roof - How does Revit do that?

I'm having trouble figuring out how to make this roof work. My initial 'schematic' roof was constructed only with the roof slopes in mind. Now I have to make this work. Could someone please guide me in the right direction? No info in the help files...

Since you will want to build your truss family as a separate family, but your roof geometry is first created in the project, you need to be able to copy from the project to the family, which is not possible directly, but with a trick: export a section view of the roof to .dwg, then open a new truss family, and go to a similar elevation view, then import the dwg and align your ref planes and truss geometry with the slope of the roof.

I suggest building your roof type as just sheathing, roofing, & any other layers that sit on top of the trusses, rather than including the depth of your top chord as part of the roof type structure. Then your roof can "sit" on the truss, even though the truss really doesn't "stick" to the underside in Revit (yet...but hopefully in the near future!)

It can: use a generic model, roof hosted, unpin and edit the host roof to the slope used in the project, and build the truss under the roof. But don't bother, since there are some conditions where it's easier just to move the truss into place yourself, and I've found that the only time I want roof hosted members is for fake rafter tails in the soffits.
