How to extend a stair steel support under the landing?

I have a staircase (Assembled Stair) with steel supports. I can't get the steel supports to switch to a horizontal orientation under the end landing. I've tried both with an elongated final tread and with a landing. I expecting to be able to click on the edge of the landing to give it a support, but no such option came up as far as I could tell.

I've tried to search for an answer but get lots of more general hits on stair problems.

Anyone able to offer a suggestion?

If someone has a pretty good idea that this can't be done, that would also be good information. I'm starting to wonder if an assembly would be better - it just seems stupid when we have the stair tool right there.
