    Default Make View Discipline Editable

Summary: Have the ability to create user defines Disciplines besides the out of the box Structural, Architectural, Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing and coordination.

Description: It would be useful for a Structural Steel discipline and a Concrete discipline to be added or have the disciplines and their characteristics editable. A lot of this desire comes from section arrows showing up on concrete drawings after they are complete and we have moved on to the structural steel part of the building. There may be other ways around this and I would like to hear how others are dealing with this.

    Thanks,
    Brad

I can immediately think of a possible work-around which will rely on a View Filter that will be added to your Views/View Templates. Create a dedicated Section Type for each of your "Sub-Disciplines" with the Sub-Discipline enclosed in parenthesis. If a Section is intended to appear only in Views of a specific Sub-Discipline, make sure it is of the appropriate Type. Then, create a new View Filter for the "Sections" Category with the Filter Rules:

    Filter by: "Family and Type"
    "does not contain"
    [enter the Sub-Discipline]

    And: "Family and Type"
    "ends with"
    "))"
The purpose of this second rule is to allow generic Sections (not designated a specific Type) to appear.

You will need to create such a View Filter to correspond to each Sub-Discipline.

If you duplicate section types and name them appropriately can you not use filters based on type name to control visibility? The filters can then be saved as part of a view template.
    Oops. Too slow.
