Elevation Mark vs Section Mark

I feel like an idiot that this is tripping me up, but in the image below I have an Elevation Mark family (on the right) as it looks in the family. On the left is how that same family looks when I load it into my project. Is there any reason why the text is no longer appearing opaque even though is says it is?

If you have a text family of the same name inside the model that is in the annotation family it could cause your problem.
