Default Loosing Large Surface while in drawing

Good Morning, Another question post....hopefully once I get this new stuff under my belt I can be more helpful than ask-ful.

I am studying a 33.5 mi^2 area. C3D has created a MMS file which is coming up around 400MB in size. While navigating the dwg and changing settings, etc...the surface definition vanishes.

It almost seems that cad is dropping the affiliation of the mms file and I just need to have it grab the association again.

Which settings are you changing? Are you adjusting the style of the surface? Do you have the Level of Detail setting enabled?
If you have a technical question, please find the appropriate forum and ask it there.

What version are you running? IIRC I had issues with 2013 and large .mms files...

Good Morning and thanks for the replies!

    I am running Civil 3d 2016
version is 10.5.604.0 Autodesk AutoCAD Civil 3D 2016
    Built on: M.49.0.0 AutoCAD 2016
    M020AP Autodesk AutoCAD Map 3D 2016
    7.8.44.00 AutoCAD Architecture 2016

Level of Detail is off. It seems to be when I close cad and go back after time (no reboot..pc stays on) my grid spot shots come back with question marks. The surface has no function.

The other day when this happened I went ahead and rebuilt the surface because the MMS went missing...and the same thing happened again! So I may have it down to the file going missing.

I notice that in this thread they talk about a proxy setting for the surfaces ?

Going by that discussion, the surface should be the only thing in that dwg file. (Which is generally considered best practices anyway)

(proxy should only matter for people running vanilla acad I think)

Set up a data shortcut to the surface, and DREF it into the drawings you are doing stuff with, instead of working in the same dwg file as the surface
