This is something I get when visiting the zoog design messageboards, If I spend say more than 40 seconds typing a message, or reply when I post it I get a message saying "invalid session" and lose the text I just typed.

What I do, and new users who get the same problem may not know about this, is to use the "back" button on internet explorer, copy what I just typed, log in again, paste and submit the text fairly quickly - normally if you submit within about 40 seconds or so it is ok....

I have to do this almost every time I post, but a new user might just try a couple of times and give up thinking there is some reason they cant use the site. I know Vincent V gets the same problem - how many others get it?

(this message I had to go back, cut, paste submit as described above!)

Have you mentioned this before? I don't recall...I have this problem with the new AUGI forums occasionally and it is yucky. There was a tip for minimizing it there. I'll find it and post a copy of the info here.

Please, if this is happening to you, let Chris Z, me or one of the moderators know so we can get a sense of how "big" this issue is and hopefully find a solution. We don't want to "harsh your mellow".

    Thanks!

I get the same problem Martin, but infrequently.

Initially I thought it was not associated with our location, but now I wonder if the high throughput on CZ's link may make us people who are further out more susceptible to unforseen disconnections.

Aah, Peter, it's supposed to happen to you to annoy you...but now that it's happening to MartinP, well that's another matter entirely hehe "Q"

It has happened to me as well but very rarely. My difficulties only seem to occur after 2 or 3 minutes of pondering, typing & retyping, not 40 seconds. (Hmmm..... after re-reading those lines I hope that they don't ever get quoted out of context )

Well, of course! You know that IE and Netscape cannot coexist on the same computer without causing a harmonic convergence of good code and bad code which ultimately leads to a breakdown in the ZOOG continuum. Granted, you cannot remove IE without breaking your entire computer, so uninstall Netscape and see if that works.

Jut kidding. I tapped out with the browser suggestion. I'll go away now.

It seems that it may be a distance issue, the further you are from the server, the more likely a time out will happen. Personally I have never experienced this, but I have noticed the users who do have trouble are overseas, (UK, Netherlands, Singapore, etc)

Let do a quick survey to see if this is really true.

The server is physically located near Philadelphia, PA. Please post you location, distance from server (appx. miles), primary browser and whether or not you have trouble with invalid sessions.

If and when I can get some consensus I can see about trouble shooting it.

    thanks,

    Z.
