    Default Networking between offices

I need ideas on what, if any, companies do when they have two offices but want to share AutoCAD data on one server. We will be setting up a VPN, but this will be to slow to transfer CAD files. Please help.

    Hi

Please note I've *moved* this thread from the Win XP Forum to this one as I feel this particular Forum is a more appropriate place for such a topic.

    Thanks, Mike

Depends of the size of the offices and the data being transferred. Is the company large enough to afford a leased line? What DSL/Cable speeds are available in the area? It doesn't matter about the download it the upload that will count. No point getting thing setup when all you have is a 256kbs upload (approx 30kBs)

Are both offices within a few miles of each other? We use wireless line-of-sight to connect to the servers downtown. We are around 2 miles away, but I think they can go up to 15 miles.

Robert brought up the most important thing to think about. You upload should equal your download speed.

Data on one server is a mistake. Even with a T1 more than a drawing or two opened will run like a one-legged man. We have a VPN link between our two offices with a server in each location. The primary server performs syncronization of selected data nightly. If something needs to be sync'd immediately we just do it then. There are all sorts of sync packages, we use PeerSync.
