    Default shading disappears when linked

I have created a Revit topo model from an Acad Civil 3D as a separate file so that I can link it into my building model. I split the topo into two surfaces: site and surrounding streets. I left the site unshaded, but gave the streets a material I called "asphalt pavement". In the topo file, it looks correct, but when I link it into my building file, the gray shading of the asphalt disappears and the difference between street and site is difficult to make out. I have fiddled with the link settings for a couple hours now and nothing seems to bring back my shades of gray.

What controls the material of a topo when it becomes a linked file?

Default Re: shading disappears when linked

I got my shading back, almost by accident. I turned shadows on and noticed that the ground plane was set to basement. When I set ground plane to level 1, the shading came back. Not sure what the connection is, but it works!
