Title: The Role of Programming and Schematic Design in the BIM Process
Instructor: Lawrence Ciscon
Course Description: Learn about the critical role that programming and early design play in building information modeling (BIM). BIM has traditionally focused on the modeling and detailed design stage of building projects, which does take into account the program and client requirements captured much earlier in programming, and conceptual, and schematic design phases of a project. Without integration between program and design, project teams deal with significant knowledge gaps and a manual, time-consuming design validation process. By postponing design-to-program analysis to the later stages of building projects, project teams risk creating a design that fails to meet the client's requirements, translating into costly rework. This class highlights common gaps in project team workflows and discusses how to use knowledge automation, integration, and early decision-making to achieve efficiencies and cost-savings.
