XREF files of the for the same name into the same file...

I have an xref question. I am trying to create a sheet with floor plans for an entire product line and the way the company I work for set up dwgs makes improbable to xref multiple xrefs into the same file. Here is how the file are setup…

Plan 4001 has xflr1 (base floor plan) xrefed (relative path) into xflr1-a (elevation strip plan)
Plan 4002 has xflr1 (base floor plan) xrefed (relative path) into xflr1-a (elevation strip plan)

What happens when I try to xref 4001 xflr1-a into the same dwg as 4002 xflr1-a is that plan 4002 xflr1 references plan 4001 xflr1

I there a way that I can xref plan 4001 xflr1-a into the same dwg as plan 4002 xflr1-a without this happening?

I'm not sure I totally understand your situation, but you can "rename" the xref name within a file and attach another copy of the same xref which results in a different name, and so AutoCAD sees them as different xrefs even though they're the same file.

That may help your situation.
