    Default RAM Questions

Please help me on this RAM issue. I have Revit 2015 in my computer with 16 GB RAM, one pair of 8 GBs, and quad core processor.

If I open one Revit program only, the Performance Chart will be always like the attached “Revit-performance-2016-0205-0734”, which is hovering around 6.40 GB.
If I open two Revit programs, the Performance Chart will be like the attached “Revit-performance-2014-0829-0711”, which will be around 14.60 GB. However, if I open two Revits, I cannot copy & paste between them, neither use "Load into Project" function.

If the Revit 2015 only can utilize one chip a time, that means even we increase our RAM to 32 GB, two pairs of 8GBs; it would not help.

Our computers are on older technologies, which cannot handle 16GB RAM per slot.

Dose the Revit 2016 can utilize all installed RAMS?

    Best regards,

The availability of RAM is an OS function. All the application can know is what's available, and unless there's an operating system issue, all the installed RAM is available. So there's no reason to NOT put in a second pair of 8Gb RM sticks -- just be sure they match the specs of the currently installed RAM

    Hi cadtag,
Thanks for your reply. Do I need to setup something during the RAM installation? Or just plug in the available slots, the computer will figure it out by itself?

simplest route is to go to Crucial.com and let their on-line tool inspect your pc and recommend the upgrade that works for your motherboard. then either buy from there, or use the information and order matching RAM.

Once the new / replacement RAM is available, power off the machine, ground yourself to the chassis, and seat the new RAM sticks in the available slots. Power back up, and the POST should recognize the newly available memory during boot up. If you get beeps instead of booting, power back down, and try reseating the ram. Do pay attention to the direction -- nothing should need forcing, but should seat firmly and click in
