Component tab MIA

Been making drawings without problem. Then, with no warning, I can't create a Base view. When I select Base there is no Component tab from which to select a part. Nothing but an arrow. If I have a part or assembly open I can create a base view of it. If more than one is open I can create a view of the last opened. What happened? How do I get the Component tab to show up?

And I also just discovered that the View Edit dialog is MIA also. I opened a part and then created a view of it. I had no choice of scale, view or orientation. I selected the new view and selected Edit, which it accepted, but no dialog box.

ARRRGGG! I've got to get these drawings out!

And it gets worse! I can open a drawing file, but the only sheet I can access is the one that was created when this all started, and I can't do anything but look at it.

For lack of an option I re-installed Inventor. No joy. So I uninstalled and re-installed it, and it's working again.
