Default Clash detection for CD Model at LOD 300

    Hey everyone

I would like to know if there is any article that specify the allowed tolerance when running a clash test for the Design models, most of the articles talk about the construction models. Our client is requesting to have the Clash test under 1cm tolerance while we claimed that this can not be done in the design stage knowing that our model is developed up to LOD 300, I need some reference to check if we shall do the run at a 1cm tolerance or we can go for higher tolerance level.

Can any one help on this matter

    Regards

Only one I can think of is the BIM forum LOD Spec. It seems to provide the best info on what should be modeled, to what level of development it should be modeled and lots of other good stuff.

Honestly, I like the idea of the design model being clashed. Now that I work on the General Contractor side of the business I see a lot of questionable design work. In many cases it's obvious they want to save time (and keep fee) by forcing the contractors to figure it out and then the design team signs off on it. Essentially pushing coordination and design off for another trade to eat the cost of design rework. If both models were forced to be coordinated within specified tolerances it could have a positive ROI by enhancing communication between teams, getting the specialty contractors feedback earlier, and ultimately reducing rework.

As far as 1 cm, I don't know of any such mandate unless it was agreed upon in your coordination documents.
