I would like to know is it is possible to create a profile without making a surface. i don't need the surface volumes, just the profile to be displayed on a drawing. I am using AutoCAD Civil 3D.
Thanks!

Not as far as I know... The defintion of a profile really _requires_ an alignment and a surface, and then it can be displayed in a profile view.
Not sure what the purpose of your design is. But if you don't need to do surface volumes, you can just create a surface around the area that you want to profile.
Lets say you have 500 LF of pipe you want to show in a profile. Just create a 5 or 10 foot wide surface around the pipe. You can always paste these surfaces into a master surface should you need to do volume calcs at a later point.
A profile may be created using the profile creation tools. No surface required. You could also create one from a file which has station and elevation data.

see the OPs other post -- I may be conflating two different requests, but they seemed to be related....
