Default Revit model line weight dependency on scale

I'm having a bit of a brain fart... it has been a while since dealing with line weights in Revit, if we really even modified them at all from the default.

Can anyone provide example on why the weights would want to be varied by scale? I would think if you had a sheet with an 1/8th scale plan and an enlarged 1/4 scale plan, you would want the line weights to show on the sheet consistently between the two views. Our line weights have been assigned different through scales for years, and it has all of a sudden been asked why. I was like a deer in the headlights with no answer on this. Do we change the line weights to have the same value for all scales?

Any help to reach my sanity again would be appreciated.

    Thank you.

You can change lineweights based on scale.
Pen 8 could be .003" at 1/16" and .5" at 1/2" if you wanted.
    Check your pen settings.

It comes down to the thickness of each line weight 'relative' to the rest of the drawn elements in the view.
If line weight is set to 4 for the cut line of a wall, at 1:5 that line would not have the same graphic 'punch' as it would at 1:100 if it was always a .35mm thickness. Since the line weight is assigned based on the object category the easiest way to compensate for this is to allow the line 'thickness' to vary for each scale.
