Default Display of Nested Detail Items effing Up

I have a window mullion nested into a window family (detail items). the mullion displays over the window, so that it can "break" the window up into different panes. I take this and nest it into another generic family, window assembly. display order still working as expected thus far.
Take that assembly fam and load into project, and the mullion now has window pane lines passing through it- odd. ive tested this out and the behavior seems to be tied only to the depth of level nested.
Anyone else ever notice this in Revit 2015? it definitely makes no sense and seems buggy, unless revit, similar to quantum mechanics, breaks reality at certain scales/depths of iterations.
I find this mistake to be entirely frustrating and bogus.

I can think of a few reasons this might happen. Any chance you want to post the family?
