Default custom line types and fonts not provided

We have a client from overseas that has provided one of our satellite offices with some drawing files that have custom line types, and fonts that don't appear. The CAD tech's usual trick or changing the font style doesn't work this time. What can we do to work with these files? TIA.

I'll guess that what's failing is the shx files for the linetypes. If you can get away with it, change all the linetypes in the original copies of the drawings to standard types, continuous etc.. If the appearance of the linework matters, best bet is to get them from the client.

maybe post the names of the missing files -- someone may have one of them they would share.

This is what I suggested they do. We'll see how accommodating the client can be.

This is one of the major reasons for advocating to use OOTB fonts and line types (and hatches too) instead of becoming "all customized".

Sure, as long as everyone has these support files it works great, but that isn't always the case.
Lots of our clients such as ACOE, USGC etc require we use OOTB content for this reason.

    (sigh)

Oh, the amount of times I've argued with our architects about that... it's in the cad standards for a reason... I don't care how pretty and special you want your drawings to look, they have to be usable for all of us.

Line type definitions come with the drawing and I believe there is a routine floating around the internet that can extract those definitions to a file. The problem would be the font. That information is not included within the file.
If you have a technical question, please find the appropriate forum and ask it there.
You will get a quicker response from your fellow AUGI members than if you sent it to me via a PM or email.
