    Default Cut problem, maybe.

    INV 2016

Strictly as a test for this problem, I created a "part" 5" x 5" x .25" thick and "Placed" 3 copies in a Assembly. After constraining the three parts together face to face and on the edges I extruded a CUT (simple hole) though them. It went through all three parts. I then extruded another part, in the assembly, on one face of the three constrained parts and sketched another hole on the outer most face. Upon extruding a cut of the hole sketch it will only go as far as the other side of the same extrusion and does not go through the three other parts.

    Is this a bug

Is it suppose to work this way

    Am I doing something wrong

It would be very convenient if there was a way to do this.

    Not a bug
    It is by design
Nothing wrong, just missing a step or 2...

Without seeing your model, I would suggest a right-click on the assembly feature, and select "Add Participant" and select the solids for the feature to appear on.
You probably already know this, but assembly level features do not propagate down to the part/sub-assembly level.

I guess you could say I knew it because it has been pissing me off for a while now. I figured it was by design but when you need to put aligned holes through several mated parts it would be convenient to do it in one operation. I didn't know about the "add Participant" feature though. Learned something knew today so I guess it was a good idea to get up this morning.

    Thanks for the reply.

You're welcome. At the risk of being a broken record, none of the features you apply at the assembly level will be on the actual parts. When you open the part, no hole. That being said, you can trick Inventor into doing it by playing with the Bolted Connection or Clevis Pin tools.
