Default Assemblies - work planes won't stay turned off

    This concerns assemblies.

Every time I start a new part sketch in an assembly all the work planes in that assembly turn on. I can turn them off again in the OBJECT VISIBILITY tab but there are a lot of planes in this particular assembly and it happens so much it is driving me to drink. I tried going into the part files and turning them off there but it doesn't seem to help. Is there anyway to keep them turned off except when I want them turned on.

    Somebody please save my liver.

You can create a view rep that has the visibility of all of the planes toggled off.

No way to just keep them turned off without adding more complexity?

I'm not sure what your workflow is, so I cannot say. My usual approach is to use the Assemble > Component > Create command. No planes that are not already visible will display. If you have toggled the visibility of the planes from within the context of an assembly, that will override the part settings, and the assembly now controls it.

I have struggled with this on occasion, and a view rep is the only solution I can come up with., especially since we have multiple users accessing the assembly, with differing approaches.

    Sorry...

The Object Visibility only toggles the visibility of all workplanes in an assembly. That's annoying when you only want to see a certain workplane. I never use the Object Visibility due to that reason. I switch the visibility off of workplanes when i don't need them anymore at part level. That way you can show a certain WP from within an assembly. I use a version of the attached VBA macro to hide all the sketches and workplane in each part in an assembly.
I modified this macro in 2 separate macro's for sketches and workplanes, but at the moment i don't have that modified macro at hand.

Rename the extension to bas and add the file to your VBA.

Are you familiar with these keyboard shortcuts? Press the Ctrl key along with the ] for planes, / for axes, and . for points to toggle the work features on and off. This will work for one level. For another level, use the Alt key instead of the Ctrl key.
