Question How to constrain sketch lines etc. to drawing geometry in idw?

    Hi

When drawing a sketch in a view on an idw-drawing I often need lines etc. to "stick" to the contours of the part.

For me the obvious way to go is to project geometry from the drawing view into my sketch, but the project geometry button is inactive...?

    Help would be appreciated!

    Thanks!

Select the view first, and then start the sketch.

    Hi.
I know how to start a sketch...
    - but how do I constrain the sketch elements to the contours of the part.
For example: how do I get a sketch-circle to tangent a geometry of the part shown in the view?

In the idw, the model is just a 2D projection. You need to be doing your sketch in the model file. Then the project button will be active.

    Thanks for your effort.
I know how to sketch in a part file, but as stated I need to sketch in idw and constrain this sketch to a contour of the part.
For the current task I need to indicate the use of different measuring pins, so I need to draw i circle in the idw (not in the part file!) and make this circle tangent to som lines (edges) of the part, if possible.

    Thanks, Anders

I was able to use Project Geometry when the sketch is oriented to the view. Follow Bunny's instructions or start the sketch and then pick the view.

Where you able to project geometry from a view in idw? - do you have a screen shot of that?

"Follow Bunny's instructions or start the sketch and then pick the view" - am I missing something here? to me all Bunnys instructions where, was how to start a sketch wich doesn't help me much further...

When you select the Start Sketch button from the ribbon, the prompt asks you to select the sheet or a view. If you select the sheet, the workplane axes are oriented to the lower left of the sheet. If you select the view, the axes are oriented to the center of the view.

In order for the "Project Geometry" tool to be enabled, you must select a view. This will associate your sketch to that view. If the "Project Geometry" tool is grayed out, you have selected the sheet.

    Succes!
    Thanks guys!
As so often when encountering a problem I would have sworn that I've tried this procedure several times...
I cannot however select the Sketch button first and then the view - I have to select the view first and then click the sketch button... never mind, it works!
    Regards, Anders
