Dividing up the model between architectural and structural?

I am working on a large home and we have a structural engineer providing their services in Revit. They have decided to use linking rather than worksharing. When I link their model into the central architectural model, I can see that they've duplicated walls and other components. This doesn't make sense to me for the architect and the structural engineer to divide up the walls, floors, roofs, Etc. between structural and nonstructural. I would envision a coordination nightmare of who hosts what components and who's responsible for making sure that the model closes properly. Wouldn't it make sense for the architect to model all components of the project, except those that are strictly structural elements like beams, structural columns, and beam systems? Then the structural engineer can add their own annotations, Dimensions, and develop their own details using the architects modeling as host? How does anybody else do this?

The structural components, including walls, have other properties that the engineers use, so they need them in their model. You can use view templates to turn off the components of their model you do not want to see in your documentation views, but they can be visible in coordination views so you can match their walls or see where you need them to change.
