I thought I had a good thing going by creating a material parameter and then using it to paint the surface of a family. This would allow me to keep the material of the object in tact but allow me to "paint" the object for basic presentations. For example, I might want to paint a steel tube for a presentation but still have it show correctly as steel in a section cut.
What I am encountering is that the painted surface parameter seems to govern the cut section which defeats the whole concept.
Any thoughts?
There was a good thread on this a while back, and based on the last sentence it seemed to be successful. Of most interest to me was the avoidance of redundant materials.
