Why is it that when I go to rotate a Google Earth image I have cut and pasted into the drawing, it does a translation and not a rotation? Very strange.

OLE is okay, but has huge limitations. I'd _STRONGLY suggest that you use real georeferenced imagery for Civil3d work, Real aerials if you can get them, or at a minimum the imagery from bing via the Geomap command.
And consider rotating the view, not the image!!
not sure I use these all the time. I usually use align it moves rotates and scales all in one step. Sometimes you need to tweak a little depending on scale and how precise you were in selecting align points
Thanks cadtag. I found that an actual separate image, like from a jpeg, is rotatable like any other object. I am coming back into Autocad after being away for a while and I had remembered that rotating an image is possible so I was frustrated when the OLE would not rotate. The secret is simply not using OLEs.
