Default Upgrade from Revit 2010 to Revit 2014

We're trying to upgrade from 2010 to 2014 and the model keeps crashing. I know you're not supposed to skip versions when upgrading, but 2014 is the oldest versions we have. We're also doing the audit, and using one of the best computers in the office, but those don't seem to be helping. Any suggestions?

When you're performing the upgrade, here are a few things that usually help:

    1. Prepare a new location for the upgraded file, or determine a different name.
    2. Make sure each linked Revit file is on a specific Workset and/or unload each RVT link (do not remove or detach, just unload them for all users temporarily).
    3. Detach from Central, opening only "Editable" Worksets.
    4. Save-as, Save-to-Central, and Compact the file.

Repeat this process for each RVT.

Also, check your file path length. If there are 230 or less characters including your Central File name, you're probably in trouble and need to move the Revit file somewhere on your directory where the file path, including the file name, is less than 200, preferably less than 150 characters.
