    Default Linetypes

I received a template file that has some blocks that i don't need, and there's nothing in the drawing yet. they won't purge or delete.

how can i get rid of them. there are only 4 layers in the drawing 0, defpoints, viewport and z-stamp. they don't show up in view items you can purge, but they
do in view items you cannot purge.

don't know where they are located. how do i get rid of them.

I'd save a backup copy somewhere. A template that you need may have something in it you don't know you need yet. If it can't be purged it must be in the drawing somewhere. Have you tried using Quick Select in every tab? Take a look at them in the Block Editor so you'll know what they look like. May not be something you want gone or at least you'll know what you're looking for. Some use blocks to save Text Styles and Linetypes and insert them small in a border so they won't be noticed. Blocks can be used in Dimension Styles as well. I've had to save drawings to DXF and search for the block insertions with a text editor, but unless you've done this a few times understanding a DXF file isn't easy.

For further help you may need to attach or provide a link to the template file.

Another thing you can try is to look at the blocks in BlockEditor. Some developers (Softdesk!!) have created block with no entities or invisible attributes to try and ensure that the layers/etc they want to keep will always be there. Hard to purge out if you can't select them to erase first....

thanks for the help everyone. i did find the solution. the dwg had several xrefs that weren't pertinent to the dwg. once i detached them, i was able to purge without any problem.

In the future, another possible solution would be to:

Open this drawing and a new, empty, no-template drawing.
Use DesignCenter to copy things you DO want from one to the other.
When you're done, save the new one as your new template.

I've always been a fan of WBLOCK Command as well, especially when dealing with drawings from others.
