Thx for replying but I am asking how to write the expression so that I can create "run over rise".

I'm seeing the same as remi68731. Surface slope labels have rise:run and run:rise available as a text component.

Maybe I'm not understanding the question

I guess I'm not understanding the question. under edit the label style dialog box make sure the option is for the text not the line then select the contents to edit. It will give you several options to select from I had to experiment with it a few times before I got what I wanted. If you search you tube there are some post there

THe templates hear at my new company only have "Standard" styles for everything. I really am starting from scratch. I don't have a any of the label styles that most Civ3D users know. To complicate the issue I was using 2017 and my new company is still using 2016. I wonder even though 2017 is not back compatible if I could still copy/import label styles?

you should be able to go back and forth between 2016 an 2017. you can edit or copy and edit the standard style. also if you open a new dwg from the template folder civil3d comes with some ncs layers and styles

2016 to 2017, yes. 2017 to 2016 -- is problematic. C3d sommand, object _AND SETTINGS_ are disabled when you try to op a '17 drawing in 2016. Especially without access to 2017... looking at the style definitions from a 2017 drawing is unfeasible.

That said, as was mentioned, the OOTB install should include an NCS Imperial template with some style you can start with. Might be a good time to set down with the engineers and find out how they think their labels and object should look.
