    Default Non-Rectangular Wall Foundation

    heya...

I was just wondering how you guys are doing your non-rectangular (in section) wall foundations...

When I say non-rectangular (in section), I mean that the top of the strip footing is 600 wide, then 100 deep, then 450 wide at the bottom.

My first instinct was to use a profile, but the "system family: wall foundation" only accounts for 2 possibilities:
    a - bearing
    b - retaining

    both are rectangular (in section).

Have you guys found any work arounds?

    thanks!

    Hi,
You can modify a concrete beam family. Change the profile in the family to suit.

    Cheers,

.... Yeah, I'd rather not do the foundation won't follow my wall?

I was realling hoping you weren't going to say that...
    But now that you have.
Can you confirm that you meant Edit Type > Edit Assembly > Sweeps > Choose my desired profile?

    thank you!

I would create a new Generic Lined Based Component family. You can set the Category to Structural Foundations.

The idea of using beams makes me cringe...

In-place sweeps is a good alternative. I personally prefer to avoid in-place families.

    I agree with Steve's option.
    I will advocate that method.

could you do an in place void sweep to cut a rectangular footing into a tapered one? that way your footing would stay connected to your wall and would be recognized as a footing by revit still.

    crosseyed's method works really well.

just like everything else in Revit. there is more than one way to accomplish it.

I can't seem to make this in-place family into a wall foundation.
Would I be correct in assuming that since the wall foundation is a system family that I'm out of luck in that respect?

As for the void form, I gave it a try, but it wasn't turning out quite like right.
    - I created a profile with the desired area I want to cut out as lines
    - Edit wall type
    - Edit construction structure
    - View: section
    - Reveal
    - Add, and set to my profile
    - Adjust offset so it centers on my wall.

However, I doesn't seem to cut away the wall foundation.
I thought revit can only handle voids in it's native element.

    Hmmmm.
I just tried again, as Steve Mintz described using a Generic Model as a Structural Foundation.
It drew my sweep as a profile then selected it.
So this gives me decent global control as I can change the shape of the void in multiple instances of my wall foundations.

However, it seems that for each segment of wall foundation, I end up having to create a new in place model, draw in the path, select the profile, etc.

While not too bad if i've only got a couple walls, but if we start talking 20+ walls, it's going to get a bit tedious.

Any thoughts on a simpler way of doing this?
