Subcategory visibility issue with nested symbol family

Hello!

I'm having an issue with an ceiling mounted exit sign family (fire alarm category). These are the things I need this family to do:

• Show up in 3D views as a rectangular extrusion
• Show up in both plan and RCP as a symbol only
• Be able to be turned off on some plans, but still show up in other plans
• Be able to be turned off while other Fire Alarm Devices category families are still turned on
• No duplication of work - move one and move all (thus the nesting)

I hoped this could be resolved via use of subcategories, but it doesn't work with symbol families. Does anyone have any thoughts on how to achieve what I've listed above? Fixes or workflow suggestions are welcome.

If I understand correctly, you have a Fire Alarm Family with 3D geometry that has an Annotation Family nested into it, correct? Have you tried using a Project or Shared Parameter applied to all Fire Alarm Families and using a Filter in your View Template?
