Default Using assembly constraints between subassemblies

I created a new Assembly and then "placed" two sub-assemblies into it. I need to place a part into one of the sub-assemblies and constrain it to the other sub-assembly so that it will be in the proper position. Is there any way to do this or is there a better way not using constraints.

Constraints can be placed as you have laid out. Are the assemblies not performing as you need them to?

In addition to Bunny's questions, if this is something you will do often, you might consider creating iMates.

I think I'm trying to do the impossible but I will try and explain it better.

I have two sub-assemblies in one assembly. I need to add a bolt to one of the sub's but it needs to be positioned (constrained) in relation to the other sub and this won't work. I finally just added the bolt to the main assembly and that constraint worked as it should.

Is what I tried even possible?

You might try this. Mark the bolt as Flexible, then you might be able to constrain it to the master assy.

An added note to Ed's post, which you may already be aware of: The bolt cannot be fully constrained in the sub-assembly, in order to be flexible in the upper-level assembly.

I wasn't familiar with that function, movable assemblies isn't something I do but it seems to be the solution. Thanks.

After you place your 2 sub-assys and extra bold, you could Promote the components from your 1 sub-assy to the upper assy. Delete the sub-assy from the upper assy. Then select the components and bolt and Demote then back as a sub-assy, overwriting the original sub-assy file.
