Hello AUGI CAD Managers,

Do you have a preferred directory naming convention for civil design projects, that is a project drawing set folder organization system? Idea is to use this as a template for all new projects.

Background:

“…identify the project folder so that files can be shared with all users. The next level of subfolders could consist of names identifying the progression of the project files according to their development phase.”
National CAD Standard - V6: Uniform Drawing System - Module 1 - Drawing Set Organization (https://www.nationalcadstandard.org/ncs6/uds/mod1_5.php)

1PREDES - programming and predesign phase
2SCHEM - schematic design and concept phase
3DESDEV - design and development phase
4CONDOC - construction document phase
5CONTRAC - constract submittal phase
6RECORD - record document phase
7FACMAN - facility management phase

but the NCS favors architecture over civil design. So here is my first attempt:

Parent Directory: 17001-NorthPark (project number is YY followed by 3 digit autonumber - then shortened project name)
Subdirectories:
Docs-Applications-Grants
Docs-Bid (engineers cost estimate, bid tabulation, notice of award, EJCDC boilerplate contract documents, ...)
Docs-Construction (stuff after design)
Docs-Office (save project manual here, project schedule, policies & procedures, ...)
Docs-Geotech
Docs-Planning
Docs-Research (pictures of site visit, referenced standard drawings and specifications, referenced projects being connected to)
DWG-Architect
DWG-Blocks
DWG-DataShortcuts
DWG-Electrical
DWG-Engineering (this one is big, drainage study, traffic study, offsite improvement plans, revisions, ...)
DWG-Landscape
DWG-Survey-ROW
DWG-Survey-Topo
GIS
PDF-SheetSet
PDF-Submittals

Thanks,

Jeff Jensen
