    Default Gutter Profile Issue

I can't seem to load the gutter profile in my hosted sweep roof fascia in version 7?

I used to do this in the earlier version whenever I need to connect my horizontal gutter up to the rake this is due to the limitation of the gutter sweep to be horizontal only but in version 7 after loading the gutter profile it wont show up in the fascia system family drop down list of profiles strange huh.....?

The family may not be assigned as a gutter profile.
if you call up the family and then go to settings - family catagory and settings - you will see a pull-down list assigning the profile type.
Check that it is assigned there correctly.

The family is the default gutter profile from Revit (it's the cove profile) and it is loaded in the project browser under profile family but I can't access it from the fascia system family drop down list of profiles. I used to do this in the earlier version and it works just fine but not anymore in version 7.

I think it was a change made in 7.0 that you can assign a profile 'type' depending upon where you want to use it.

Open up the profile family you mention and as my previous post you can change the profile useage - that will do the trick

Thanks Phil that did the trick.

However, I still did not get it why the change? What is the advantage of having the profile to be restricted to one use only instead of having it use globally to any category?

I tend to agree with you there. I pressume its to partly reduce the size of the pull-down list of available profiles to use in a fascia situation etc. These lists can get very long. The browser should be re-organised as well to match the profile useage types as that is still one big list of profiles.
The new useage parameter is just too buried to even remember its there in my opinion.

I think we are seeing more of these divisions to provide for the separate disciplines work. Ie struct profiles, mechanical, electrical plumbing. Our profile lists would get huge and unmanagable if there were no mechanism to sort them by use.

I do agree with the profile management issue though but would it be nice if we could just right click the profile in the project browser and there is a drop down menu to change the profile type according to its usage rather than burying it down to the family category and parameters.

    Just my two cents here.

I noticed you said fascia system. Do you mean Modelling/Host Sweep/Roof Gutter? As opposed to Modelling/Host/Roof Fascia?

I used the modeling/host sweep/roof fascia but using the gutter profile instead of using the modeling/host sweep/roof gutter this is due to the restriction of the latter sweep to be horizontal only. In my case i need to miter the horizontal gutter with the incline gutter at the rake and this is not possible using roof gutter.

    Hope I explained it well.
