I know your immense frustration -- our office is forced (for planning development approval requirements) to submit 3-6 plans showing shadows at different times of day / year. The proposed shadow is straight forward, (just check project north is correct and set the time and date in each plan); the existing shadows however, require us to use workarounds -- the best method so far has been to trace the outline of all existing shadows on surrounding sites and existing buildings with a filled region, then paste that into each proposed plan, and change the graphics override for the filled region to be semi transparent & coloured.

It would save us a load of tedious work on every project if a simple option like you've suggested was implemented.
