Default AutoCAD Electrical for Audiovisual Applications

    Hi all,

I'm investigating the use of ACAD Electrical to produce AV system drawings that inherently create a device and cable schedule. The way I imagine this would be done is to create block definitions that have attributes such as Title, Description, Location but also Input 1, 2, 3 etc, Output 1, 2, 3 etc. (potentially with specified connector types eg. HDMI, DVI, RJ45, DB9 etc.) - some of these blocks would need to be replicated for separate Audio, Control and Power drawings for example, but remain linked and only counted as one individual instance.

Then, I'd like to be able to draw lines (wires?) between block inputs/outputs that are listed as cables - ideally automatically registering the termination at each end from the connector type attribute of the block it is snapped to. Cable length would need to be manually entered but this is ok.

    Hi Sara,

You should be able to do that in AutoCAD Electrical, you could use the blocks in parent and child configuration to count them as one in reports etc.

Send me a sample drawing so that I can give you better answer.
