    Default Lock Revit link

    Guys,

Is their any way to lock a Revit link permanently to avoid accidental moving/dragging the link. Pin is not safe as Revit technicians sometimes unpin it and forgot to pin again which cause inaccurate location of the link.

    Thanks

The evil way to do it is to put it on a workset.
Change your username to something like "BIMMaster"
Open the model. Place that link on a unique workset checkout the workset.
Save the model (don't relinquish) and close
    Change your username back

This works great until someone start putting things on the wrong workset.

    Habits...develop good ones

Pinning is more effective if users also routinely deactivate the Select option Select Links, especially if the option for Select Pinned Elements is also deactivated. That does depend on the user and their habits though. Another technique I've seen used is to assign the link to a Design Option. The default behavior is not to select elements assigned to Design Options because we have to deactivate the Exclude Options (Status Bar) to actually select the link, every time.
