Default PIPE LABEL IN DRAG STATE

Does anyone know how to get the leader to align with the dragstate text? I have a pipe label that is rotated 90 degrees. I want to drag it off of the feature.

See attached images for better explanation. The first one is what i get. The second is what i want.

    The quick and dirty answer:

Select that label and you'll see in the properties window a place to turn off the Leader Tail Visibility. Then use the + grip in the middle of the remaining leader to add a vertex point. Use that vertex to make the vertical portion of the leader.
