Default reinforcing steel in a revit model

Just a quick questions. Who do you feel is responsible for modeling reinforcing steel in a structural model. We are a structural consulting firm, and we obviously design our concrete with reinforcing. But we do not produce bar lists or bending diagrams, so as long as the reinforcing information is called up in the slab/beam/wall should we just leave the modeling of the reinforcing to the reinforcing supplier. We detail the rebar by line work in our sections.

    What say you?

I think that depends on your project and your contract.
We used to draw rebar and call it out. Then we played with it a little more. Turns out it was actually easier to model it than draw it once you got the hang of it. So we model it, but only where we cut the sections/details. As the design Engineer you're responsible for the design intent - ie Telling the fabricator what they need to have in each wall so they can produce a shop drawing for the person in the field to tie it an place it prior to placing the concrete.
In my opinion, I'd say it's on the fabricator.
As another example look at structural steel. Typically you would draw all the columns, Beams and Braces, but you leave out the connection. If the contractor wants a more accurate model, they get it from the fabricator. Just my 2 cents.

    Dave
thanks again, I totally agree. Why model it all when someone else is responsible for it. I still do my reinforcing detailing by detail lines in the section. Just kind of an old school guy that way. As for modeling it, yep only model where you cut it. Since in this situation 2d ifc drawings take the lead.
would it be al right to send you an email dirrectly
