Point Creation to Point Group automatically

how do you create points from the point creation tools and have them automatically put in a point group while creating them one at a time?

more specifically: Manual Point Creation To Specified Group
When creating a new manual point, have an option to specify what point group you would like it to be placed in. Not just the next point group counter (not really sure what this is or does), but have the ability to select either existing point groups or create a new group.

AFAIK, which is a lot less than i wish, that's not possible. the route i take is to use a raw descriptor and then update the point group that includes that description. multiple steps, but not too extreme...

thanks cadtag, that's kinda what i concluded. i know when you import a point file you can have it put in a point group, but i was hoping you could assign it as you're creating points.

maybe something for the wish list.

I don't see much of a point (hah, puns) to a lisp routine at least as far as the OP is concerned. If his point groups are already set up correctly he just needs to update his point groups after creating all of them and they'll dump in the appropriate place.

I have a ton of point groups in our template by default, after I import point files I can just run the update point groups and everything is hunkydory.

If you are creating points figure out the point number range you're going to be using, lets use 5000 for example. Then guestimate how many points you will be adding, lets say 100 so we'd have a range of 5000-5100. Make a point group named whatever you would like and on the include tab set the group to include points numbered 5000-5100. Once you are done if you made more or less points than you expected, adjust the top number and voila. As mentioned you will have to update the groups to get the points to show up as well.
