Default Air terminal looks simplified when inserted

I've gotten hold of an air terminal family which on the site has a nice 3D model that I can orbit around (attached). However, when I load the family and place it in my model it suddenly takes on a very simplified look consisting of solids displayed in what I call Revit's default gray color. I've played around with the detail level settings to no evail. Do anyone of you know how this can be changed? Thank you!

try editing the family itself, and see if the higher detail elements are set to appear High detail only. they might have two versions drawn in the family, the plain shapes you see in your image, set for coarse and medium, and the high detail perforated elements that should show in High. make sure those are set correctly, just something to check...
