Default Decoding old school symbols created when converting to PDF.

I hope the title explains what I am trying to do.

So our new project we are working on is a remodel of a structure that was built in the year 2000. And what we have to work with (as structural engineers) is a whole lot of old PDF files. There are no DWG files available.

And on the PDF drawings, there are lots of symbols and letters that mean nothing. The real information got lost in translation from DWG to PDF. Please see attached image.

So anyway, I wondered if anyone had any bright ideas for decoding this stuff. After going through the drawings I can't really see a pattern to the symbols.

Any answers would not only be helpful, they would be a life saver.

    Thanks!

To me, it looks like the tilde is just equal to a forward slash "/", as in 1/8" and TS4x4x/4, meaning a count of 4.

if the detail is at a scale of 1/8"=1', that's a heck of a big chunk of steel...
