    Default Outdated subscription

I did not update my subscription after 2017. I thought I could still use the products that I had already. I tried Revit 2017 for the first time in several months and it does nothing. Won't even open a sample file.. Any ideas?? Did Autodesk wipe out what I paid for up until 2017? Thanks

Did you have a permanent license on maintenance, and drop the maintenance after 2017 or did you have a subscription. If the former, you should still be able to use the version of the program that was current at the time the maintenance expired. If the latter, your right to use the program ended when the subscription expired.

    What @dkoch said.

Perpetual licenses keep running forever, or more practically, as long as you can find hardware on which to run them.

Rental licenses only run for the rental period. This is what Autodesk offers today, rental only. One month, 3 months, 12 months, 36 months.
If you stop paying, it stops working.

Bricsys still offers perpetual licenses if you need to find an alternative.
