Default HELP! Civil 3D 2018 File Bloating and Very Slow Performance..... We are Shut Down!

HELP! Our project is shut completely down.

We upgraded to Civil 3D 2018 a couple of weeks ago. Everything went fine until this week.

It now takes > 30-45 minutes to open or save a file. Some files will no longer open.
When we save our files, we noticed the file size increases from ~2MB to >153MB. Performance is zero.

We googled around and found recommendations to change the new reference surface DATA REFERENCE STATUS to "REFERENCE ONLY" so the reference surfaces will not be copied into current file. That did not make any difference. Performance is still slow and the files get bigger and bigger.

There was reportedly a hot fix for file bloating in C3D 2017, but it was supposed to be fixed out of the box in C3D 2018. Evidently not.

    Anyone have advice?

    Thank you in advance....
    A Spencer

The performance degradation hotfix is built into Civil 3D 2018, but drawings still have to be opened & saved before they are 'fixed'.

That's why the Civil 3D team provided the Batch Save Utility, to quickly open & save drawings using Core Console (thereby 'fixing' them).

    Cheers

Thank you for your fast reply. How do we access the Core Console to fix the files?

We have opened and saved several files (very slowly) and they only seem to get bigger.

Again, thank you for your help.

Make sure 2018 is up to date first.

I don't visit often, just happened to see this; Core Console is installed with AutoCAD product installation, Batch Save Utility just uses Core Console under the hood.

If you don't already have it on your workstation, you can download the Batch Save Utility (Standalone) here:

I strongly suggest you read up on it... Use it well.
