Default Why I find Revit So Easy To Use

My name is John Todd Flannery (hence the JTF).

I have been working with Revit for 2 1/2 years now and find Revit to be the greatest program I have ever used and I have tried them all. I consider myself to by a "just above average" user of Revit and probably use 80% of Revit features. I have been a member of our once beloved Zoog forums
and now AUGI and have received all the help and more anytime I have asked for it. (Thanks everyone)

But what I am writing about is the new wave of users I think I see as being negative. Back when we were all on Zoog's site I don't remember the same type of negativity from question askers (if thats even a word) but for some reason, and I attribute this to only good things that more people are making the switch.

All I can say to new users is that maybe you were taken up in all the hype from whoever, that Revit would be the end all of having to ever draw again. "This thing Revit will just create a model by the click of the mouse" attitude needs some rethinking. Just like a building is created by just clearing the site of a new construction project. Not!

I believe Revit is a program to build with, and then you still must draw or maybe that is just how I use it.
As I have stated in the forums before I am a builder first and designer second by heart.
The meaning of Architecture really does mean "The Science of Building".
So just like out in the field all the components must be fitted together the same as in Revit.
In the past with 2D drafting all looked fine and well with all types of fancy details but did it really fit. Now that I use Revit I can be damn sure it fits.
As far as the construction drawings that I produce from Revit, I must say that for all the time I save I get to spend it on marveling over my printed drawings because there are by far the prettiest drawings I see produced around my area of the Niagara Region here in Canada in comparison to what is out there.

In closing all I have to say for all the new users (2 1/2 I still consider myself a new user) is to rethink and know that you have all become closer to the true meaning of Architecture then you have ever been before.

    Thanks for listening.

    JTF

I still learn something new about revit almost every day. Revit keeps it fresh and teaches you willing or not to be an Architect, not just a designer or draftsman. .

Revit is a 'new' way to do our work. That's why it's so interesting (and fun) to use. Just because it's new, however, doesn't make it good. The good comes from Revit being easy and intuitive, and letting us think more like Architects when we create documentation.

Hey factory, the pressure is on to keep us interested

We have about five months under us. Learning everything through tutorials and the Generous help of this forum. Just finished another project. Each one getting better. Now we are devoting the rest of the day, and week, to studying Revit. It's so fun to work on I can't believe we get paid.

I just emailed an Architect friend of mine from MN who designs casinos. We are old friends from Alaska but almost my entire diatribe was focused on Revit and how great it is to work with. We figure we will be pretty much up to speed in a year but each time I turn a corner I see that there is greater depth and more power in Revit than I first thought.

This forum is the best source, Thanks
