underline text

I am using Autocad mech 6. When using simplex left middle underline text (%%U), the
text is left aligned with the insertion point and the underline starts to the left of that. When using simplex right middle underline text, the text is not aligned with the insertion point but the start of the underline is.

Please advise why this is and is there a way to make the right underline
text start at the insertion point and not the underline.

Can you please post an example drawing file that exhibits such behaviour (from the quick testing I carried out here, I could not reproduce the issue / problem you documented above).
