I know if I start the curtain panel with the door-curtain panel template it automatically becomes a door, but if I have a panel started in the plain curtain panel template how can I change it to a curtain door panel?

to clarify, are you in the family editor, creating a new curtain wall panel as a door?
Have you tried, within the family editor, using Settings>Family Categories and Parameters to change which family it falls into?
There doesn't appear to be any user accessible means to "define" or discern one from the other besides some labels.
So...I believe you'll have to resort to cut and paste to place the contents of one into a Curtain wall door panel family template.
Interesting...I'll have to change your status to "Count Conundrum"...
It is not unsual that even long time users may not know everything regarding the software they are using. As what great Ted Boardman says about 3ds max "nobody will ever learn this software completely".
I think it is just fair to consider that Scott may have forgotten or has not encountered this situation yet with this software.
Going back to the issue, i think i have encountered that situation in one of the sample files and it is possible by loading the predefined Curtain Wall Single or Double Glass Door.
One the default curtain wall is set up you can select one of the panels and change with the loaded curtain wall doors.
Sorry for the spelling "One" should be read as "Once".One the default curtain wall is set up you can select one of the panels and change with the loaded curtain wall doors.
Arnel you can edit your posts, check out the edit button, upper right of your post. This will let you spell check or fix stuff post post...I love this feature!!
One thing I've learned is if Scott posts a question, read it several times because you can bet that he has already exhausted what he knows and that's substantial.
I don't believe he discussing curtain wall panels in a project but rather converting a curtain wall panel family itself into a curtain wall door panel family. I'm assuming he's got a nice door panel that someone created in the wrong template and want's to get it in the right one as easy as possible.
Naturally if I'm wrong, I'll stand corrected!
ops: ops: ops: So do I Steve if I'm wrong I'll stand corrected.
So now we wait huh? Judgement day tomorrow...
I usually assume that if Scott posts a question, that I don't know the answer or that the answer is that it can't be done.
