    Wink Will AUGI Gauge get updated for 2006?

    Just wondering if there were plans in the works for updating AUGI Guage for AC2006? I would like to start a thread to get some hardware comparisons from other users, but I jumped from 2002 right to 2006 so I might as well wait until I can get current version results...

    Thanks for any insight...

    Robert,

    Last month AUGI conducted a survey on the viability of maintaining and updating the Gauge. I have not gotten the results yet. So at this moment the board does not have an answer for you. Once I have the results and the board discusses it we will inform AUGI as to the status of the Gauge.

    Hi

    Please refer to the Wednesday, June 15-17, 2005 (<- Link opens PDF directly) "Meeting Minutes" found on the Meetings and Minutes page.

    Below snippet is taken directly from above referenced document (Page 12 of 20) -

    <snip>
    AUGI Gauge

    Survey results (only 250 members responded) uninformative
    66% were unaware of it
    94% never used its data for purchasing/ROIs
    81% felt it was worthwhile
    72% felt it warranted additional resources

    Conclusion: Do not pursue further development of Gauge. Move Gauge to

    FileSwap and add “no longer developed” disclaimer

    RM Action Item –Add Gauge to FileSwap after flush.
    </snip>

    Have a good one, Mike

    How about making AUGI Gauge open source so that those who would like to use it can??? Add all the disclaimers you want to it...Make it non-profit...If it would be possible that would be great!!!!

    I am with Ray here, I find it very useful for making internal comparisons between newer and older machines for the purpose of life cycle justification. When I can show the partners the differences between the oldest CAD stations and the newly purchased ones, they have something tangible to go on when I request additional hardware resources ... user data for this is too dependant on the specific users knowledge level.

    AUGI Guage has been a very useful tool in my position as CAD/IT manager. An open source version would allow me to continue using the tool at my own expense in programming time (I can't believe it would be that difficult to update...)

    Or, does anyone know of any other good benchmark utilities (preferably freeware and on the order of Guage with regard to testing functionality)

    Robert,

    I have a subscription to Cadalyst Mag and they always use their own benchmarking system...Unfortunately the only available version is for AutoCAD2004...I have posted to their forum to see if they will update that or not...

    I was looking at the AUGI Gauge's LISP routines a few days ago and they seem almost ready for AutoCAD 2006...I am sure that there are little things in the ARX portion and in the LISP portion that need to be changed, but it seems like the Gauge programmers were looking ahead (and I must tell them GREAT JOB for doing that)...Anyway, I just hope that someone reads this post and decides to release the code...

    Autodesk is the entity that holds, and used to maintain, the source code. I will check to see if they will release the source code.
