Default missing mullions in plan view

I can't figure out why some mullions show in plan view and some don't. I made a bunch of window families. It's nearly universal that mullions and glass don't show in plan view. See sample file for and example of a window that shows mullions only and one that shows only the perimeter mullions. Neither show glass. For what it's worth, in my building model, all curtain walls show fine.

I also noticed the frame and glass of the fixed window included in the Imperial Library are set to not show in plan - we actual want to show them.

Maybe there is a global setting?

    Attached is a sample file.

    Thanks!!

    Tom,
i just had a few minutes to look at your file, but maybe this will help...
was this built from a window template? seems that if you add a sill height, you can see more. still can't see the glass, though. perhaps making them curtain walls in your project instead of a separate family?
    good luck,

Within your window family, you have the visibility setting for all your frame pieces set to display when cut in plan. This means that even frame pieces above your cut plane will show when the window is cut in plan which are hiding your mullions. If you change the visibility settings of the frame pieces above the typical cut plan to *not* show when cut in plan, you will see the mullions.

My recommendation is to not show any of the window pieces in plan and rather draw symbolic lines to represent everything you want to show in a plan view. Even better yet, if you're up for it, I would suggest creating "ultra lightweight" families of your typical windows to nest into your window families.

    Hope that helps.

Beware phases when working with curtain walls. I don't know how it happens, but sometimes a few mullions get moved/created in a different phase. Very Annoying!

Irsun, I thought I had exhausted the visibility check boxes. On your suggestion I tried again and it worked! I turned off "plan/rcp" and "when cut in plan/rcp" on all horizontals except the sill. Thank you!

Why would I go to the trouble of drawing symbolic lines? Is there a computer memory savings by having lines instead of extrusions? Our plan views tend to regen fast, so the savings might be not worth it.

I hadn't heard of "ultra lightweight" models until you mentioned it. I'm going to think seriously about it, although we might be too far in our current project to implement it. We also use 3d views. How often do you use "ultra lightweight" models?

ejc, we aren't doing phasing on this project. So at least I don't have to worry about that.
