Default Duplicate w/ detailing, views on sheets?

Why can I not select the Duplicate w/ Detailing command for a view that is placed on a sheet? I have a detail on a sheet of a project that is under construction right now, and I need to add something to the detail to send to the contractor. I would like to duplicate the detail with detailing but I would rather not pull the detail off the sheet that it's on now, duplicate it, and then have to place it back on the sheet.

    Am I missing something here?

Since its a detail, that is being referenced from another sheet, Revit will not allow you to duplicate detail views. It doesn't know what to do with the callout. You can make another callout of the same exact area, and then copy-paste any 2D work you have done form the detail into the new view.

But I don't understand why it won't let me Duplicate with Detailing and just stick the copied view in the project browser, not on any sheet.

Basically if I expand the sheets in the project browser and right-click on any view, it will let me duplicate the view, but not with detailing. If I go up the view (floor plan, section, detail, whatever) at the top of the project browser (not under the sheet view) then it will let me duplicate with detailing, whether that view is on a sheet or not.

Okay in the project where I needed to duplicate the detail a few minutes ago, the project browser was set up to only display views that were not on sheets at the top of the list. I guess if I had changed the project browser to display all views, then I would have been able to duplicate the view with detailing w/o having to remove it from the sheet.

It just seems odd why it doesn't give you that choice if you right-click on the view under a particular sheet in the project browser.

Here's what I mean, notice I'm right-clicking on the same view (this isn't the same project I was working on earlier):

I think this is because once you are under the sheets menus, clicking on the view is really a "finder" for the view you are looking for and jumps you to it. The control is all in the detail view menus.

I don't this this is correct Scott - I don't have any problems duplicating w/ detail for detail sections or plan callouts... the new callout just gets dumped on the plan on top of the existing one...

I think you are right....my explanation was a guess at what was happening. i didn't think you could duplicate callout views. Thanks for setting me straight!

You can't do it from the sheet listing. However, if you change your browser view to all, so you see the view on the project browser(not under sheets) you can right click there and duplicate with detailing. Not sure why this doesn't work from the sheet. Note elevations are a diff. story. all other views this works for.
