    Exclamation Select Shape File

Hello, I am hoping that someone can help me identify a problem that is no more than an irritation at this point.

I work on Land Development Desktop 2005, and when I open some of my project files, I get a pop-up window that asks me to "select shape file" and I see a place to browse the files on my computer. Since I have started for my company, I've noticed that not all files ask for this, but those that do prompt me to 'select a shape file' have anywhere from 1-5 different pop-ups. I have always hit cancel, and the window goes away, and I've never noticed a running problem from doing this. However, I get irritated at always needing to hit cancel for these pop-up windows.

If you can help, please explain the solution in simple terms, as I'm not familiar too much with tweaking AutoCAD.

    Thank you,

    Erica

    Hi Erica,
Those popups mean, that there are some custom linetypes (or shapes) in your drawing.
To get rid of this run QSELECT command.
Select objects with non-standard linetypes and change them to standard linetypes (e.g. "Continious").
    After that perform PURGE ALL.

Or you can set the PROXYNOTICE variable to OFF and PROXYSHOW to ON to eliminate that pesky dialog completely. This way you won't be corrupting someone else's data (possibly). Or making them do the same thing over if you share these files with outsiders.

We share files throughout our office, as well as receive information from outside sources. So I don't want to change any of the files. This seems like the best solution (so far) however, when I type PROXYNOTICE it says "enter new value: <0>" and you can't just type "OFF", it "Requires 0 or 1 only". Similar issue with PROXYSHOW. it says "enter new value <0>", but this time is says "requires an integer between 0 and 2" and I'm not sure which to choose.

Your help would be greatly appreciated...

    Thank you

Sorry bout that. 0 is off, 1 is on for both, and 2 is showing bounding box only for PROXYSHOW. So you would want the Proxynotice set to 0 and Proxyshow set to 1.

    Mark,
I checked both pieces of information (proxynotice & proxyshow) both were set the way you suggested. So I'm not sure what else can be done. If you have any other idea's I would appreciate hearing them.

Thank you so much for the help you have already provided me

    Erica,

If you still get the dialog, it usually means that the shape file is not in your search path. You can just hit cancel to clear the dialog, but until the folks that use those shapes, send them to you, you will get the box. That is one of the reasons I always use Etransmit when I send files out. That way I know they have what I am looking at when they open them.
