Just swapped out my Gigabyte video card on a new computer when I saw this in the ATI control panel:
Nice to see the manufacturers paying attention to Revit finally...
PS - the model is an ATI FireGL V3100. Sells for about $175 US.
Notice thou that it doesnt have 'Revit Certification'
Come to think of it, there probably isnt such a thing, would be good if there was, suddenly making a decision on the make/model of graphic cards to buy would become a hell of a lot easier!....We are Product designers as well, and use Solidworks, have a look at Solidworks Video cards ...wouldnt this be great for Revit!
Do bear in mind that solidworks really needs some grunt in its video cards, you can use fully textured/ rendered models as we use shaded models (ie: rotate on the fly)
Well, Wes, how does it work? Good card? no problems with Revit?
It's working just fine. But as many people have noted, I think the card is overkill for Revit... I'm sure I could have gotten away with a cheaper card!
Which cards are you guys using that are cheaper? Wondering if openGL works on some cards and not others. How does openGL improve Revit's performance?
We have Quadro FX500's. Can we use openGL?
OpenGL will greatly improve performance when using shadows. I hear the nVidia Quadro's work well with OpenGL enabled.Originally Posted by bowlingbrad
Obviously, a lot of us are starting to upgrade our computers now, what with the Athlon 64 (and X2), PCI-e, Sata drives, etc. coming on the market at the same time the old workhorses are starting to get ready for retirement. The old wisdom was to use the high-end video cards for 3d intensive graphics, and I definitely think Revit qualifies in that area... I'm constantly switching to a 3d mode to visualize what I'm doing. From my experience I would say that having hardware acceleration is a necessity.
My old Quadro2 Pro can't EVEN do Opengl in Revit, while some of the newer gaming cards (I've got an ATI 9800pro 256mb at work) are performing flawlessly. Everyone touts the Nvidia cards, but some of them don't work at all either (and imagine spending $500-$2000 on a quadro or firegl and finding out that it's no better than a $100 2nd or 3rd generation game card!!!)
Let's hear it folks, what card works (with Opengl and overlay planes) without buying the super-expensive cards. Any comments out there?...

I have a Quadro FX500 in 1 workstation and OGL works fine in both RB9.1 and RAC2008.Originally Posted by bowlingbrad
Hey guys I know this post is old but I need some help.
I just bought an alienware laptop with Nvidia Quadro FX 3600M video card, 4gb ram, 2.8ghz. Etc. a sweet 4k laptop
I'm kind of disapointed because revit performs the same in my 4 year old vaio than in my brand-new alienware.
My question is do I have to make some configuration in revit or in my video card so it performs better? I was expecting like a lot lot faster renderings and fps.
Please Advise!
Thank you very much
