Default Detail origin and location with fields

When creating what AutoCAD refers to as a drawing block title, what field do I use to give me the view's origin?

As in, I create a named view in dwg. A-400, and place it in A-404. In my drawing block title, I want to call it view A (which is the View # field), and I want it to show that it came from dwg. A-400. I can't figure out how to do the second field.

    Help!!

    Thanks,

    Jason

You need to use Sheet Sets to accomplish this with fields.

I'm using the s.s.m, A2K5. What I'm asking is: what field do I need to use so that my drawing block title (which inserts with my viewport), gives me the sheet number of the drawing that the view was inserted from. What is happening now, is that the field I have selected returns the current sheet number. I know that I can select the inserted block's field, and go through the field dialog box and find the originating sheet number from the sheet set field category, but that's too much work.

    Thanks,

    Jason

You need to use the placeholder fields when defining the callout block.

That is what I have done. I have used the Sheet Number field from the Placeholder Category. The value it returns is the number of the drawing that the view is being placed on. I need it to return the value for the number that the view came from.

    Thanks,

    Jason

I think I understand what you are after. I think the only way you can get that is to use the SheetSet field name, navigate to the sheet in the Sheet navigation tree, and select the SheetNumber property.

I was able to cross reference details from the sheet where they are taken to the sheet the detail is on and backwards. It is a heck of a lot of work but a short description follows. Basically in the sheet the details or sections are cut from I saved a view name that matched the detail name. Then in the detail sheet I inserted a block that referenced back to that view name from the view list. I had to create a whole bunch of subset views to keep it straight. It appears to all work fine as I did the rename and renumber and things updated. If I ever did this again I think the easy way would be to just use numbers for everything. Section 1 on a plan drawing would be tied to Section 1 on the detail sheet the section is on. Next one is 2 and just keep counting up. Doing this could eliminate the many view subsets. I know I ended up with view names that referenced back to the original drawing name plus the view name. Maybe somebody can figure out an easier way which would be nice. Good luck, Jack Foster.
